Virgin Property Group was ultimately formed because of a long and ongoing battle against Ovarian Cancer. Stephanie Virgin, an Ovarian Cancer Survivor (as well as a Kidney Cancer Survivor), was first Diagnosed in September of 2014. She was 30 years younger than the average age of the typical Ovarian Cancer patient.

Ovarian Cancer is often called the “Silent Killer” because the symptoms, in general, are relatively normal bodily changes experienced by a woman. The most common symptoms are persistent bloating, loss of appetite of feeling full quickly, abdominal or back pain, and urinary and bowel trouble. Unlike Breast Cancer, there is no early detection test which leads many women to ignore these subtle symptoms ultimately leading to the cancer commonly being found at an advanced stage.

Stephanie and Virgin Property Group fiercely advocate for Ovarian Cancer awareness and are actively involved in spreading the word about the perils of Ovarian Cancer.

 Survivors Teaching Students

Stephanie teaches Medical Students including future Physicians, nurses, and nurses with advanced degrees. She uses her story to teach the importance of looking beyond seemingly normal symptoms in patients to discover diseases like Ovarian Cancer at an early stage.

Livestrong Program at the YMCA

Cancer beats the survivor down as well as their family. It is a disease that takes so much. The Livestrong program focuses on taking back from cancer. Livestrong is a community of survivors and families whose sole focus is to live stronger after cancer. Virgin Property Group stays actively involved in this program and financially supports the Chapter hosted by the Northeast Louisville YMCA.

 Awareness and Community

Surviving cancer is not for the faint of heart. In fact, the ancient proverb “It takes a village to raise a child.” comes to mind because Greg and Stephanie Virgin learned that it, in fact, takes a village of friends and loved ones to survive and thrive through battling cancer. One of the most important decisions Greg and Stephanie made during Stephanie’s battle with cancer was to openly disclose their journey with friends, family, acquaintances, and even strangers. Amazing things started happening when they poured their vulnerability into a blog named Steponme Vs Ovarian Cancer. Love and support from the people that cared about them lifted them up through the darkest points of their journey. More people were made aware of what it means to “fight” cancer. There was even one friend that was inspired by the blog to be proactive with a pre-screening for breast cancer. She learned that she had breast cancer and was able to address the disease at a relatively early stage. Building community and awareness about Ovarian cancer and cancer survival is a defining aspect of Virgin Property Group.
